Watercrest Chefs Head to the 2026 Senior Chef Showdown

Great food is part of everyday life at Watercrest, and on Wednesday, October 7, our chefs are taking it to a bigger stage. Watercrest is competing in Senior Chef Showdown 2026, a live culinary fundraiser at the UCF Alumni Center where senior living communities from across Central Florida go head to head.

What Is the Senior Chef Showdown?

It’s a live cooking competition with a twist: every dish has to include honey. Guests taste every entry and vote for their favorite. Honey sounds simple, but it’s a tricky ingredient to build a plate around. It browns quickly over high heat and can take over a dish if the balance is off, so the teams have to get creative.

Cooking for a Good Cause

The evening benefits Seniors First, a Central Florida nonprofit whose services, including Meals on Wheels and a food pantry, help older adults across the region. Cooking to support meals for local seniors is a cause our culinary team is proud to stand behind.

What Is Dining Like in Assisted Living at Watercrest?

The showdown is one night. The cooking behind it happens every day. Dining at Watercrest is built around choice, with multiple dining venues in each community. Depending on community location, residents can dine al fresco on the patio by the pool, meet friends in the café bistro and wine bar for flatbreads and charcuterie, or sit down to candlelit fine dining in the W Room. Our signature culinary offerings include a monthly brunch, wine tastings in the bistro, and Mindful Choices meals based on the MIND, DASH, and Mediterranean diets. As resident Jackie C. puts it, “I appreciate that everything is fresh and homemade.”

How to Find Senior Living Communities With the Best Food

If food matters to your family, a few things are worth checking on any tour: whether meals are made fresh, how often menus change, whether there’s more than one place to eat, and how the kitchen handles dietary needs. The best test is simple. Stay for a meal and taste it yourself.

Check back on our Chef’s Corner after October 7 to see how the night went. Or come taste Watercrest for yourself: schedule a visit at Winter Park, Buena Vista, Spanish Springs, Palm Beach Gardens, or St. Lucie West, or contact us to learn more about assisted living at Watercrest.
